The Arrival of Spring ~ a Sonnet

She slipped in twixt the shimm’ring soft moonbeams
and spun a pirouette in dew of dawn,
the world was cold in sleepy winter dreams
and little snowdrops still just newly born.
A chirping chorus sang and fluttered free
in woodland deep where bluebells now would grow,
and in the coming days we soon would see
shy pretty primrose flow’r ‘neath each hedgerow.
She brought the sunshine and a whisp’ring breeze
that bathed new buds and leaves as yet unfurled,
and then she dappled green among the trees
where nests of birds would hatch and see the world.
You sprinkle life with love and hope each day,
oh Spring I missed you whilst you were away
