A Wintry Night

He watched the willow tree dancing
in the evening breeze whilst listening to the garden
chimes as they tinkled a pretty and playful tune.
The snowdrops were barely breaking through
the frozen ground but still they could be seen,
and the sparrows all hiding in the warmth
under the eaves of the houses were sleepy
He noticed that the snow was still crisp
and the moon shone rays
of magical crystals upon it that dazzled
like the facets of a million tiny diamonds.
The night air was cold outside, and the sky
no longer white with its wintry burden
had become an indigo delight
from which he spied a myriad of
spangled stars shining down.
There was a stillness when the breeze slept
and the silvery chimes became silent.
Just a small very quiet rustle was heard
when a tiny mouse peeped out
from a hole in the wall, rubbed his little face
and twitched his whiskers in the moonlight
