You were my Rock before I ever needed You,
before the light appeared, to see me through;
before the Word was known to me,
before my blinded eyes could see.
Before I ever knew what love was for,
before I ever opened that closed door;
before the sin became too much,
before I knew Your loving touch.
You were the anchor that I never needed,
before the hope of faith was ever heeded;
before my soul awoke to heaven's call,
before I never knew You, at all.
Before the thought of God was ever known,
before I became something other than a clone;
before I went without great knowledge,
before it was You that I'd acknowledge.
You were the Rock that I was seeking,
to heal the wounds, to stop the leaking;
You were the Rock that I was needing,
to stop the heart and soul from bleeding.
