Poetry is addictive
it controls your mind and soul,
so before you try to write it
be sure it is your goal.
The muses come and find you
they seek you out at night,
good sleep is oft forbidden
until the lines are right.
You collect pens and paper
take notebooks everywhere,
then just as you need a word
it’s gone and you despair.
Sometimes you lose incentive
and inspiration too,
but still those muses linger
as writer’s block clouds the view.
Poetry is addictive
so my friends beware,
it starts with just the one poem
then the compulsion is always there.
