The woodland rabbits were bobbing about
“It’s a special day you know,
Joseph is having a birthday
and we are putting on a show.”
“Ah, wonderful” said a butterfly
“We can flutter a pretty display,
show how to tiptoe through the air
and sing and dance and play”
A bluebell heard the butterfly,
and rang his friends with glee
“We shall we compose a fanfare
to play at the birthday tea”
The birds wanted to do something
and thought of what to make,
“Let us gather some honey and berries
to make Joseph a birthday cake”
“I can make a jelly too”
said wild strawberry,
“Just let me simmer in the sun
and a tasty jelly i will be”
The toadstools provided some tables,
and little acorns were made into chairs;
tree blossom hung like pretty balloons,
soon came the bluebell fanfares.
Joseph heard the commotion
and was very surprised to see
that many of his poet friends
had come to his birthday tea.
“Happy birthday, happy birthday,
ninety years old dear friend
to a kind and lovely gentleman
much love and peace we send”
Enjoy your cake and strawberry jam,
see the butterflies dance for you.
Feast on all this happiness
and may your birthday wishes come true
